Partial refurbishment of a house.

Bougival -

2023

Escalier béton, garde-corps béton, sous-sol rénové Bougival, contraste matériaux – Atelier d’Architecture Antoine de Gironde, architecte Versaillais.

In Bougival, a family home had a basement that had until then remained unused. The intervention consisted of fully integrating it into the rest of the house by creating a home cinema, a guest bedroom with an en‑suite shower room, and a wine cellar.

The project follows the vocabulary of the existing materials. The raw concrete beams, highlighted by the white‑painted hollow blocks, reveal the structure and create a play of contrast and perspective. White plaster linings, incorporating thermal insulation, extend this palette. A raw concrete staircase connects the different levels, fully embracing its materiality. Its oak claustra balustrade responds to the beams through the tension of its vertical slats, seemingly supporting the weight of the staircase. The windows, also in oak, bring generous natural light into spaces that were once without openings.

An economical project where constraint becomes a principle: enhancing what is already there.

"We called on Antoine to partially renovate our family home in Bougival under tight budget and scheduling constraints. We are very satisfied with the aesthetic solutions proposed and the management of the site. We highly recommend this architect!" — Magali
