St Louis

House renovation

Versailles -

2022

restauration maison 1930 Versailles, quartier Saint-Louis, secteur sauvegardé, hall d’entrée, rénovation intérieure, escalier majestueux, murs blancs, carrelage géométrique d’époque, moulures – Atelier d’Architecture Antoine de Gironde, architecte Versailles.

The Atelier conceived this interior renovation as a restoration, preserving and enhancing numerous period elements: green cabochon faience in the bathroom, the staircase, encaustic tiles in the entrance, wood floors, mouldings, fireplaces and interior doors.

The entrance was enlarged by reorganising the volumes, thereby restoring its welcoming function. The plaster friezes were extended by stamping into the new space to maintain continuity with the original decoration. Opening a load-bearing wall between the kitchen and the dining room transformed the relationship between the two spaces. The range cooker chosen by the owners punctuates the centre of family life.

By extending the staircase up to the attic, the Atelier continued the design of the original balustrade, reinforcing the house’s identity while bringing natural daylight through the full height of the dwelling. A visual connection is thus created between the floors. Custom-made furniture, designed as an integral part of the architecture, supports daily use and structures the spaces.

The attic was provided with thermal insulation and fitted out as a master suite, an office and a child’s bedroom, optimising family comfort while enhancing the existing heritage.

This renovation combines comfort, natural light and respect for the building’s historic character, restoring the house’s full personality.
