St Louis

Renovation of a 1930s house

Versailles -

2022

In the heart of the St Louis neighborhood, a house dating from the early 1930s located between the Cathedral and Les Carrés - within Versailles' protected heritage district - needed to regain full functionality to accommodate a large family.

The Studio conceived this interior renovation as a restoration, preserving and enhancing numerous period features such as the green and white bathroom tiles, the staircase, the entrance hall tiles, the parquet floors, the moldings, and the interior doors.

By opening up the staircase to the attic and reconfiguring the ground floor circulation, natural light now flows throughout the house, maintaining visual connections between floors. Bespoke integrated joinery optimizes space and meets the storage needs of a large family.

The attic was thermally insulated and converted to create a master suite, a study, and a child's bedroom.
